- Tier 01 General (Highly Skilled Workers)

The UK Border Agency has stopped accepting Tier 1 (General) applications made overseas from 23rd December 2010. They have also stopped accepting any NEW Tier 1(Initial Entry) application from 06th April 2011.
Please note that this is not applicable for Tier 01 (general) extensions and Highly Skilled Migrants those who are switching in to Tier 1 (General) criteria.
Extensions within the Tier 01 general or HSMP criteria’s would remain the same.
Brief explanation of the qualifying criteria
If you are covered by the HSMP Forum judicial review judgment or if you want to find out whether you are eligible; contact one of our immigration consultants.
Your total points score must be at least 95 points if you currently have permission to stay in the UK as:
- a Tier 1 (General) migrant under the Immigration Rules in place before 19 July 2010;
- a highly skilled migrant;
- a writer, composer or artist; or
- a self-employed lawyer.
If you are not in one of the categories above, your total points score must be at least 100 points
- Applicants must score a minimum of 100 points

- 80 points in the Attributes Category
- 10 points in the English Language and
- 10 points in the Maintenance Requirements

Attributes
You can claim points under the following categories; as far as you have a total of 80 points you would qualify under this section. None of the subcategories are mandatory in term of claiming points

Previous Income – you can claim up to 75 points under various types of income measures such as Employed, Self employed, Independent contractors and company directors or combination of several categories.

Academic and professional qualification – To be awarded points in this category you must have completed a recognized course at or above the level of a bachelor’s degree.
Different levels of points will be awarded according to your level of qualification hence try the assessment tool or contact us directly.
Previous Work or Study in the UK - If you have worked or studied in the UK you may be able to claim 5 points in this category.
English Language
This is a mandatory requirement. You need to show adequate level of English Language skills to qualify.
If you have a recognised degree level qualification, Or a national from a English Speaking country list or has successfully completed a recognised English Language test you would qualify under this criteria.
Maintenance Requirement
This is a mandatory requirement as well. You need to show a minimum balance of £800/- for the last 90 days maintained as your daily balance if you are applying in the UK.
If you have dependents they have to show separate maintenance requirements in addition to the main applicant.
